What is edward beach?

Edward Latimer Beach Jr. (April 20, 1918 – December 1, 2002) was a United States Navy officer and author. Beach was a submariner in the United States Navy during World War II, commanding the USS Piper and USS Trigger. He later became a naval historian and author, with his most famous book being "Run Silent, Run Deep", which was later adapted into a film starring Clark Gable and Burt Lancaster. Beach wrote several other books and articles during his career, including "Submarine!", "Cold Is the Sea", and "The United States Navy: 200 Years". He also played a key role in the development of the submarine-launched Polaris missile system. Beach remained involved in naval affairs after his retirement from the Navy in 1966, serving as a consultant to the Chief of Naval Operations until the early 1970s.
